Preschool Try-It Classes

* for 4 and 5 year olds *

10am to Noon

Each class is limited to four children....Drop-Off and/or Parent-Stay. Please email me to register!

The class emphasizes cooperative pretend-play and free-choice play in the classroom's many learning centers. Currently, there is an Animal Care Clinic, a Kitchen/Dining area and Nursery. There is a spacious tent with Building Materials (blocks, marble runs, fairy garden items, LEGO, small vehicles, and small architectural sets). As well, the Model Home is a favorite of all children...a miniature home complete with furniture, wooden people, and lots of fun materials. The Art Center and the Library are always ready and open, too!

This Try-It Class includes one small-group lesson of direct instruction in a specific topic that Ms. Baxter will choose: making and baking a simple treat, working on an art project, making a little book, making a puppet and trying the Puppet Theater, making polymer clay beads and buttons, sewing a little pillow, etc.

Snacks and Storytime and all materials are included!

Cost is $40 per child for the two hours.

Sewing Lessons

Knowing how to sew is a skill

that lasts a lifetime!

We begin with learning how to Hand Sew and progress to learning how to Machine Sew. Each lesson includes instruction, practice, and ongoing entry into a Basic Techniques Book that students take home and can refer to for years to come.

I also teach students how to follow sewing patterns and how to make their own patterns. We work on small projects that the student keeps. If there is a special project that a student has in mind, we work on that also.

All materials and fabric are included with tuition.

Give your child the gift of learning to knit and crochet!

It is a skill that lasts a lifetime!

I teach knitting and crochet classes for beginners ages 8 to 12. Children will learn all the basics, such as casting on, knit and purl stitches, crochet stitches, how to read a pattern, and how to choose the right kind of yarn and needles/hooks. We will work on simple projects that children can take home and use for years to come. All materials and yarn are included in the tuition.

Knitting and Crochet Lessons

Baking for Kids

**Mason Cottage Day LLC is a nut-free classroom!**

I teach beginning baking lessons for children ages 4-12. Students will have fun learning to make and bake cupcakes, cookies, cakes, pies, pizzas, brownies, monkey bread, Dutch Baby pancakes, and more! All ingredients and cooking tools will be provided, and students will get to eat their own creations and take home leftovers. Recipes and easy-to-follow directions will be sent home at the end of each lesson.

Learning to bake teaches children cooperation, organization, math, and reading skills. Baking a yummy treat builds confidence, too!

ages 4-12**

** children ages 18 months to under 4 years old can learn to bake, too! Parents must accompany their young children in this case.

Story Time and Pretend-Play

When good books are paired with fun and creative play centers, children gain confidence and understanding in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Also, playtime helps children learn about taking turns, having conversation, and getting along with others.

Centers include a kitchen area with dining space, an animal care clinic, a building tent, a mini model home, a nursery and play kitchen/dining room, and a children's library.

There is also an art center with watercolors and other materials for art creation.

Reading, Writing, Science, and Math

I also tutor students ages 4 - 12. I usually tutor one-on-one, but sometimes parents ask for small group lessons. Send me an email telling me what you need, and I will create a class opening for it.

It really is that easy! I have experience teaching reading, writing, handwriting, science, ESL, and math to preK-6th grade students!
